Stop and Savor: Psalm 139:17-24

Read this passage slowly and prayerfully.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Read just verses 17-18 and consider all the thoughts God must have since He is eternal and all knowing. Spend a few minutes treasuring the thoughts of God, considering how precious His wisdom is. Ask Him to show you His thoughts about any tough areas in your life. Ask Him to take you into His confidence and show you the things He cares about.

Now read verses 23-24 slowly as a prayer. Picture your loving Heavenly Father gazing lovingly at you, probing your thoughts with tenderness and compassion. How are your anxious thoughts different than God’s thoughts? Turn away from any grievous or offensive ways and ask God to lead you along His ways.

Lord, Your thoughts are precious to me. I want to know what you think about what I see around me, about my life, about my thoughts. Your thoughts are so vast, I can’t possibly understand them all, but I treasure the ones You do reveal to me. I submit my own thoughts to You. Please lead me in Your ways according to Your thoughts.
